We’ve gotten some amazing Vs. games over the years which of course include some very awesome dream match ups with some very iconic characters. However there is one match up that has been in players minds since the popularity of fighting games exploded almost two decades ago, Mortal Kombat Vs. Street Fighter.
As a gamer growing up I would often hear about such a mythical game but it usually turned out to be the ramblings of a liar. Yet is seems that, according to Christian Svensson over on Capcom Unity, there were actually talks about doing such a title.
Are you guys ever going to do a Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat game?
Sven: Years ago there were discussions about something like this happening (during at my time at Midway) that never came to fruition for various reasons. I’m not dead set against it BUT this [post] made me smile:
As for fatalities, it’s really not that big of an issue; just alter them to be less “blood” and more “spectacle”, and you’d basically have a list of Ultras. For example, Sub-Zero’s Ultra might involve him slamming the other character around, freezing part of them with every punch/kick, then finish off with his trademark “Ice-ball”, which shatters the ice, but leaves the character perfectly whole. It stays true to the character, without being mindlessly gorey. — Daemon Gildas

This is kind of encouraging to hear. I had always thought there was a rivalry between the Capcom’s fighting game guys and Midways that would keep something like this from ever happening. Now with Mortal Kombat going into the VS realm with Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe, maybe if us fans demans it this game can happen afterall.
