Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition’s DLC Explained

#streetFighter

So we have been hearing that Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition was getting some DLC. Many have speculated but no one was quite sure what would be coming. Well today Capcom’s Derek Neal broke it down for us.

First off, “Color Pack 1” will be launching next week, on September 6th/7th. The price for this is $2.99, and buying this one pack will add 7 new colors for each character! The colors are available in pretty much all modes, but can’t be seen by people who haven’t purchased the DLC. (Also, we weren’t able to save the color palettes in replay files, so please be aware of that.)

In addition to “Color Pack 1” (and future color packs), we’re proud to announce several other DLC offerings today, which should be showing up in the next month or so.

The first of those announcements is: a set of Music Packs(!), which add new songs. Specifically, they add…all the character themes from the first two Street Fighter IIIgames, “New Generation” and “Second Impact”! But wait, there’s more. In addition to the Unlock Keys, Color Packs, and Music Packs, we’re also going to be offering Match Packs.

As some of you may know, we held a semi-secret tournament at the CAPCOM offices earlier this year, and called it Fight For the Future, 2011. We invited 16 high level SF3 players from all around the world to participate, including 4 from Japan. With these Match Packs, we are now going to bring that tournament straight to you, in the comfort of your living room. Each pack comes stocked with over an hour worth of content, and every single match is accompanied by professional commentary, recorded by the one and only: James Chen! Finally, there will be two of these Match Packs. One will cover the entire Tournament Top 8, while the other is a “best bouts” pack stocked with all the hypest matches from the event. Look forward to it later this year!

So what are my thoughts on this? Well, we knew we weren’t going to get new characters or anything like that but I can’t help but to feel it comes a little weak. One thing I would have liked to have seen is a pack that includes stages from the first two versions of Street Fighter III. What do you guys think? Is this enough for you or do you think Capcom could have come with something more?

What Are The Chances Of A Street Fighter III Remake? Capcom Answers

When it was released way back in the day, Street Fighter III didn’t really achieve the popularity of its predecesor yet it has gained a huge fan following due to the highly competitive tournaments that sprung up around the game. With Capcom rereleasing so many classic 2D fighters for download services, many fans are wondering when and if Street Fighter III will get the same treatment. Christian Svensson and Seth Killian from Capcom took to the Capcom Unity boards to try to clear things up.

Is Capcom going to re-release Street Fighter 3 Third Strike?

Christian Svensson: These things don’t happen over night guys and if it were to happen, it would still be a ways off given that there’s nothing currently in development along these lines.

That said, we do know that it’s been a really popular request. The suggestion box alone and these forums make that really apparent. We’ll see what happens.

Seth Killian: We’re definitely aware of the interest in the SFIII series, which is why we answer questions like this at least once a week :P

That said, there’s no action on this front at the moment, though it’s something to consider for the future. We have a bunch of great new fighting games out at the moment — more than we’ve had in the past 10 years combined, so please be understanding about our reluctance to risk totally flooding the market.

New Super Street Fighter IV Trailer Featuring Ibuki, Dudley and Makoto

This almost surreal. Part of me believed that Capcom was never going to touch the Street Fighter III characters again. They were just too odd. Didn’t quite fit in with the rest of the established fighters from the franchise. I’m glad to to see I was wrong because now I’m sitting here looking at this beautiful new trailer for Super Street Fighter IV featuring Ibuki, Dudley and Makoto. Life is good.

Ibuki, Makoto And Dudley Finally Confirmed For Super Street Fighter IV!!

The wait is over! Famitsu Magazine scans showing Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley in action have just hit the net. Thus proving that they are indeed in Super Street Fighter IV. With that said, I’ll let the pictures do the talking… (more…)

Microsoft Killing Street Fighter 3 and Hyper Street Fighter 2 Online Play

I wasn’t aware but it seems that there are still people playing Street Fighter 3 Third Strike and Hyper Street Fighter 2 for the original XBox and unfortunately for them Microsoft is killing online support for those games and every other online game for the system.

No one should really be surprised as they couldn’t have provided service for those games forever. All good things come to an end. right?

From what I understand places like GGPO and Supercade still have thriving online play for those games. So if you are one of the ones especially hurt by the death of Xbox online play, I suggest you check out those sites.
